16 Jun 2025 - PEK Day 3: Gubei after sunset and Journey back to the City

As the sun dipped behind the Yanshan mountains, the Simatai Great Wall slowly transformed into an illuminated ribbon snaking across the darkened hills. Unlike most sections of the Great Wall, Simatai is uniquely open for night visits, and seeing it lit up against the starry sky is unforgettable. For those who are interested to visit Gubei, I would recommend staying one night in Gubei Watertown and pay a visit to the beautifully illuminated Simatai Great Wall during sunset.  I understand that there are water dance show and drone show in Gubei at night, but we could not catch them as we need to take a 2-hour bus ride back to Beijing City.

By this time, most of the passengers on the bus were sleeping while I enjoyed the nature's beauty under the evening hues.
