29 Aug 2008 - A smile that blows my woes away
After a tiring day of work, be it mentally or physically, this smile below just keeps me going.
23 Aug 2008 - A Trip to Singapore Science Centre
It has been almost 10 years since I last went to Singapore Science Centre. It has certainly changed quite a bit, the entrance is the first change that I've noticed. There are many new exhibitions, or at least they are new to me. There is also an outdoor exhibit called the Water Works which looks fun but unfortunately, it was raining non-stop this afternoon so we did not have the chance to explore it.
Anyway, Jerlene enjoys running around whenever there is an open space in the indoor exhibits. Again, she will not let off any button that she can find. For me, although there are more exhibits now, I find them quite disorganized and I did not enjoy them as I did many years ago. And you know what, the place where Jerlene enjoys the most is the.......GIFT SHOP.

17 Aug 2008 - Hot and crowded day at Jacob Ballas Garden
After our breakfast today, Tracy suggested that we bring Jerlene to Jacob Ballas Children Garden, and off we went....... The moment we reached there, we were shocked to see the place was so crowded. It was 10 times more crowded than we went there the last time. Anyway, since we were already there, we just went in and see if Jerlene enjoyed the place.
She did have some fun though not as much as the last time. Not only was the place crowded, the weather was extremely hot too. After we walked one round of the garden, we decided to leave the place. Jerlene was very sleepy after walking under the hot sun. She felt asleep the moment I drove off from the carpark.
16 Aug 2008 - A Trip to Singapore Discovery Centre
We brought Jerlene to the Singapore Discovery Centre today. It's located along Upper Jurong Road.
Jerlene was very excited the moment she saw all those big screens and lots of buttons for her to press. As we need to catch the 3D movie and iWerks shows, we did not have much time to try out everything. Before going for the movie, we went on a SAFTI bus tour. The bus tour brings us around the 88-hectare training ground for officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force. Btw, we were the only passenger on this bus tour.
After the bus tour, we walked over to the Army Musuem just next door. Apparently it's free admission till 30 Sep 2008. Again we did not have much time to spend in the museum. However, we managed to catch a multimedia show that highlights the Combined Arms fighting capabilities of our Army and to reinforce the notion that our Army is Ready and Capable. The effects are actually pretty good. There are 4 big screens on the 4 walls and throughout the show, there are surround sound effect, lighting effect, wind effect and water effect.
Go experience it for yourself and you will know what I mean by the various effects. There is a part where a helicopter is flying above us, suddenly the theatre generates a powerful wind effect and Jerlene was so scared that from then on, she clinged on me so tightly till end of show.
After that, we went back to Discovery Centre to watch the 3D Movie called Monster Trucks 4D. I'm a bit disappointed with this show as I've seen many other 3D Movies that are a lot better than this. Jerlene seems to like it though but she cannot see the 3D effects because she refused to wear the 3D glasses. She sat on my lap quietly throughout the movie which is to my surprise. Just for info, this is her first movie on a big screen as I've yet to bring her to cinema to watch any movie.
Next is the iWerks movie called the Great North. Again it's shown on a five storey high screen but not 3D this time, just a normal documentary show. Initially it's quite interesting but after a while, I started to get bored. Jerlene shares the same feeling as me, which is why she slept half way through the show......haha.........
It was around 5:40pm after the show and the centre is about to close. As such, we decided to call it a day and went for dinner.

15 Aug 2008 - Medal Girl
I had a company soccer match this evening and our team emerged as the winner. Each of us got a medal from the match and it was really fun. However, I had to admit that age is really catching up. After running for 20mins in the field, I was totally exhausted and had to ask for a change.
Anyway, when I went back to pick up Jerlene and show her my medal, she immediately knows that it is to be put on the neck. And that was exactly what she did. After she put it on herself, she refused to take it off. All the way from where I picked her up till we reached home, she had the medal on her neck. I'm still not sure how she knows a medal is to be worn on the neck, perhaps she had been watching olympics games on TV, especially the prize presentation ceremony.......... :-)

10 Aug 2008 - Mad about her own blog
Recently, every weekday night and during weekend, Jerlene keeps pulling me into my study room. She will lead me to my computer chair and say "Sit"! She's not asking me to sit, instead she wants me to carry her up and let her sit. And that's not the end, she will then ask me to turn on my laptop for her. And finally, she wants me to launch her blog (which is what you are reading now) so that she can scroll up and down to view her videos and photos. Imagine now that she's only 18+ months old, she already know how to use the mouse scroll. I bet my parents don't even know how to use the mouse....hehe..... :PAnyway, Jerlene is really fast at learning new things by simply observing us. Every other day she will have some new tricks to show us. It's really fun watching her grow "smarter and smarter" day by day. :-)
9 Aug 2008 - Jerlene's 2nd National Day
Today is National Day and we had a family gathering at my parent's place. One reason why we gathered there is because at the corridor, we can have a great view of the aerial display (by the black knights) and fireworks during the National Day Parade.

7 Aug 2008 - Is my nightmare starting?
Every now and then, people around me with kids will tell me about their scary experience, which commonly termed as "The Terrible TWO"! This is a development stage of a child when she begins to say "no" and very often throws tantrums to show that. Jerlene is beginning to show signs of reaching this stage. Recently whenever she's not happy, she will do this......
It is so embarassing when she does this in shopping mall, supermarket or some other crowded places in public. Whenever she refuses to leave certain shops, she will just lie down on the floor, hands and legs apart and face kissing the floor. It seems like my nightmare has started much earlier than expected as Jerlene is just past 18 months.
For parents with similar experience, there are tips which I found from the net that may help us cope with the Terrible Twos.
"To help you cope with this normal stage in your child's development, you should always remember that your child isn't trying to be defiant or rebellious on purpose. He is just trying to express his growing independence and doesn't have the language skills to easily express his needs. This can also be the reason why your toddler frequently gets frustrated and resorts to hitting, biting, and temper tantrums when he doesn't get his way.
By learning more about this normal stage in your child's development, it can make it easier to get through it and make sure that you aren't contributing to more battles than are necessary.
Other tips for helping your toddler during the terrible twos include:
- having a regular routine for meals, naps, bedtime, etc. and try to stick to them each day
- offer limited choices only, like 'would you like apples or oranges for your snack' and not just 'what do you want for your snack.' This helps your toddler feel like he is making some decisions and has power over things, but he isn't able to choose unacceptable alternatives.
- learn to set limits about things and don't be surprised when your toddler tries to test those limits to see what he can get away with
- don't give in to tantrums
- begin to use time-out and taking away privileges as discipline techniques
- provide your toddler with a safe environment that is well childproofed to explore and play in. It really isn't fair that your toddler should get in trouble for playing with something he isn't supposed to if you left it within reach. "

2 Aug 2008 - Wild Wild Wet
Tracy got corporate pass into Wild Wild Wet at Downtown East for today. This is our first time there and the moment Jerlene saw the water, she started to get excited. Before getting into the water, we hope to find a baby changing room to have Jerlene changed to her two pieces swimsuit. However, we could not find one for a while and just when we were about to give up, it appeared right in front of us....... :-)
After changing into our proper attire, me and Jerlene slowly walk into Yakult Professor's Playground (0.3m). The water was a bit cold but that was never a problem for kids. It was an issue for Tracy though and that's why she did not join us in the water. Initially, Jerlene was a bit cautious while playing in the water. When she got used to the surrounding, she simply run around the pool.

Next we went over to Yippee! pool (0.1m). Jerlene enjoyed very much in this pool and she was especially attracted to the creature (was it a seahorse?) that shoot water out from its mouth. She was enjoying it till a little girl (at least 4-5 yrs old) came by and pushed Jerlene away. I was so angry with that girl and scolded her. I asked her loudly where is her parent and she just ignored me. Really cannot stand this kind of kids who behave like a big bully. I guess such attitude got to "thanks" to their parents.
Time flies and two hours had passed. We left the pool and I brought Jerlene to the kids showering room for a washup.
1 Aug 2008 - At Novena Square
Here are some nice photos taken by Pauline when we met up last week at Novena Square.
