Today is the eighth day of Chinese New Year and we decided to have another session of "Lohei" (捞鱼生) at home.

25 Jan 2023 - Sweet Sixteen!

Jerlene turns 16 years old today!  Wow....how time flies!  It also means that I had blogged for 16 years, since the day of her birth.  My baby girl is now a young lady.  

We had a simple dinner at SOD Cafe and bought a little piece of cake to celebrate.  Happy Birthday, Jerlene!  Hope all your wishes will come true!

22 Jan 2023 - Welcome to the Year of Rabbit!

Welcome to the year of Rabbit and wish everyone a Happy Chinese New Year!  As usual, the first place we all visited is my parents' place, where my sisters and I grew up.  This year, we finally managed to get together without any restriction.  We were able to once again take a family photo!

Hope this year will be a great year for everyone.  祝大家新年快乐，身体健康，万事如意！

21 Jan 2023 - Family Reunion Dinner

Today is the eve of Chinese New Year and as per the tradition, I brought my parents to our place for a steamboat reunion dinner.  We started with Lohei (捞鱼生).

Initially we thought we did not buy enough food but at the end of the dinner, we were all very full.

After dinner, we packed up and got ready to bid farewell to the year of Tiger.

20 Jan 2023 - Amazing Thumbs Work!

Jerlene demonstrated her unbelievable quick thumbs skill to me today.  I am totally amazed by that.  I believe not many people can achieve such level of mind-fingers coordination.  Watch the following video and see it for yourself.  I was told that Javier can do it as well but he refused to demonstrate it to me.

12 Jan 2023 - "O" Level Chinese Result

Jerlene received her "O" Level results for Chinese and she managed to get a B3.  Knowing her Chinese standard, frankly I am a bit surprise of the result (expected lower grade).  However, she said most of her classmates were getting A2 or A1.  If that is really the case, I think the marking is really lenient.  Anyway, Jerlene has decided to give it another shot this year and hopefully she can improve by a grade or two.  I think it's possible if she's willing to put in more effort in her revision. 

8 Jan 2023 - Edusave Scholarship Award

Today, Javier received his Edusave Award for achieving excellent academic performance and demonstrating good conduct in 2022.

Since P1, he has been getting the award every year.  Well done, Javier!  We are confident that you will continue to do well and achieve greater heights.  Proud of you!

7 Jan 2023 - NYP Open House

Jerlene will be taking her "O" level exam this year.  She will have to decide which paths to take for further studies beyond secondary school.  There are Polytechnics and JCs open house these few days and we brought her to NYP open house to take a look.  It's actually quite near to our place.

The moment we entered the campus, both Jerlene and Javier were amazed by the surrounding.  It's so much bigger than their current schools' campus.  In addition, it looks new and architecturally very beautiful.  Another thing that "stroked" them is that there are several cafes, food courts and convenience stores within the campus.

Jerlene is interested in Digital Media and Animation related courses.  As such we went straight to the relevant campus tour and got to know more about the course.  Jerlene was very excited to hear that the course has no exam.  The grades are totally based on project works.  Having said that, the entry requirement for the course is not any easier than that of JC.  We were also told that for the past decades, the animation and motion design of NDP were actually created by students of NYP.  

After we got all the details we need from the open house, we drove to Casuarina Prata House for lunch. Monkeys were roaming along the corridors.
