28 Oct 2019 - SOD Cafe at Ci Yuan CC

We decided to have our dinner at S.O.D. Cafe @ Ci Yuan Community Club this evening.  After we finished our dinner, the cafe served us a free cake, once again for the celebrant during the birthday month.

27 Oct 2019 - Just the two of us

Javier and I went out to buy porridge for our dinner.  As the queue was very long, we probably got to wait for about 30 minutes before our porridge would be ready.  Javier then suggested to have some cold dessert, which I concurred, especially in such a hot weather.  We bought Javier's favourite cold bean curd with toppings and enjoyed it in our car while waiting for our porridge.

26 Oct 2019 - Free Lobster at Boiler during birthday month

We were back at The Boiler Seafood Restaurant this evening.  The promotion of getting one free Boston Lobster with purchase of a Boiler’s Bombdiggity Bag for the birthday celebrant is still on.
So that's what we ordered.  Yummy!  As Javier does not eat seafood, we ordered chicken bites separately for him.
This year, they even served us a surprise birthday cake for free.
Time to sing birthday song for mommy.

26 Oct 2019 - CHIJ (Toa Payoh) Secondary School Open House

Jerlene's PSLE results will be out in less than a month's time.  It's time to start evaluating which are the potential secondary schools that she may go to.  Today we decided to visit CHIJ (Toa Payoh) Secondary School during its Open House.
Tracy is actually a CHIJ alumni.  According to her, the school looks totally different from the time when she was studying here.
There were many booths setup by the various CCA and interest groups showcasing their activities.  It seemed like Javier was more interested than Jerlene.
We followed a school tour led by existing students.  During the tour, we saw a demonstration by the debate team as well as a netball match between existing school team and the alumni team.
After the visit, Jerlene does not seem to show much interest in the school.

16 Oct 2019 - Melon Fruit

Few months ago, we randomly planted some melon seeds in a pot.  We were not too hopeful about it then but this morning, we unexpectedly saw a tiny melon hanging down from the vine.
We are not sure if it is water melon, honeydew or rock melon.  We shall see in a few months time, provided it continues to grow healthily.

15 Oct 2019 - Hanoi Day 4: Flying home

After breakfast, we checked out of our hotel and took the airport transfer shuttle arranged by the hotel to Hanoi International Airport.
We were early for our departure and managed to witness our flight touching down on the runway.
Welcome aboard!
Meals on board soon after take off.
We touched down at Changi Airport in the evening.  Home sweet home!

14 Oct 2019 - Hanoi Day 3: Lotte Observation Deck (Day and Night)

Lotte Observatory Deck at the 65th floor of Lotte Center offers 360ยบ of unrestricted, stunning views of the capital.  Standing at 272 metres, it dominates the area of Ba Dinh District, about 3km to the east of Hoan Kiem Lake and the Old Quarter.  In our past trips, we always try to visit observatory around evening time so that we can have both the day and night views of the surrounding.  It's no difference this time.
The fun began from the moment we stepped into the elevator, which is one of the fastest elevators in the country.
Though the sky was a bit gloomy, we still had spectacular views of the city all around.
The biggest highlight of the Lotte Observation Deck are the skywalks, two large glass “boxes” that jut out from the side of the building.
This area attracts many visitors who come to brave the height and conquer their fears.  Here we could capture photos of ourselves looking down at the city below.
The entire deck is fitted with interactive elements, such as a touchscreen street map where you can locate places of interest, and a fun interactive wall where your message is displayed in large changing fonts as you type on a keyboard.  There are also many photo opportunities for visitors to capture memorable moments in Hanoi.
After sunset, we had a stunning night views of the surrounding where roads and buildings started lighting up.
What a feeling it was to have ice cream waffles and ice bubble tea while enjoying the superb night views all around us.
We took a few more night shots on the skywalks before descending to the ground floor.
As this was our last night in Hanoi, we bought some local delights from Lotte Mart before returning to our hotel.
Javier, being innovative, used his mobile phone's flashlight to brighten up his face while taking photo.
This marked the end of our 3 days visit to Hanoi!

14 Oct 2019 - Hanoi Day 3: Lotte Center Hanoi

From Ho Chi Minh Museum, we took a 15-minutes Grab ride to Lotte Center Hanoi, a popular shopping mall in Ba Dinh.
Lotte Center Hanoi is a 65 story building which offers a broad range of approximately 250 fashion and lifestyle brands.  This high rise building is also home to a hypermarket, a hotel, residential apartments, restaurants, a gym, a spa and the city’s finest observation deck.
As we walked past a stall selling cold bean curd and grass jelly, we all, especially Javier, could not resist it.
Javier ordered additional toppings, extra bean curd and taro balls.
It always feel refreshing to have cold desserts after walking outdoor under the hot sun.

14 Oct 2019 - Hanoi Day 3: One Pillar Pagoda

Just a short walk from Ho Chi Minh Museum, we came to one of the most special architectures in Vietnam, the One-pillar pagoda or Dien Huu pagoda.
Some history here.  The pagoda started being constructed under Ly’s dynasty in 1049. The legend goes that one night in 1049, King Ly Thai Tong dreamed of the Holy Lady (Phat ba Quan Am) sitting on a lotus and leading him to a similar building.  When he woke up, he was advised by Thien Tue monk to build the pillar-based pagoda like in his dream and topping it with the lotus of the Holy lady. Every year when it came to April 8th in Lunar calendar, the King came to the pagoda for Buddha bathing ceremony and afterwards, released a bird.
Today, the concrete pillar that supports the tiny wooden pagoda is a replacement for the original one which was blown up by the departing French, it remains unclear how much of the wooden temple is the original one.
Next to the pagoda is a Temple of the Goddess of Mercy (่ง‚้Ÿณ).
