30 Jun 2026 - Eat and Shop in JB (Mount Austin/ECO Palladium/Southkey Mid Valley)

For our day trip to JB today, we first drove to Mount Austin area for our brunch. We did a bit of research prior to the trip and decided to eat at a restaurant called Sek Bao (吃饱 in Cantonese). It is a Hong Kong-style retro dim sum and tea restaurant, where its interior features walls covered in vintage Hong Kong movie posters and pop star imagery.

We ordered some of its signature food and drinks such as Pork Chop Dry Noodle, Emerald Salted Egg Lava Bun, and Traditional Hong Kong-style silky milk tea.

After our brunch, we went to a place called ECO Palladium which is located just a 10 to 15-minute drive north of Mount Austin. It is a massive, premium open-air lifestyle and commercial hub with striking grand European-style architecture, featuring white majestic facades, arches, high ceilings, and classic columns that make the entire area highly photogenic.

Unlike a traditional indoor shopping mall, Eco Palladium is structured as an interconnected block of four-story commercial shop-offices segmented into four lifestyle pillars namely, Food & Beverage, Retail & Services, Education, and Wellness.

We saw quite a number of Escape Rooms around, but they all seemed closed.

Then we stumbled upon an interesting shop called ExoReptiles Eco Palladium. It is a specialized exotic pet store and unique pet café.

At the retail store, there were a wide variety of exotic animals, including chameleons, geckos, tortoises, snakes, frogs, and tarantulas, alongside specialized terrariums, layout decor, supplements, and live food.

The staff were highly passionate and knowledgeable about herpetology. Really appreciate them for taking time to patiently educate us about these amazing creatures and exactly how to set up proper habitats for them.

From Eco Palladium, we then drove to Southkey Mid Valley to catch a movie "Disclosure Day". 

And followed by an early dinner before returning to SG.

27 Jun 2026 - Crow Infestation

In recent years, Singapore has faced a severe crow infestation that has escalated from a minor urban nuisance into a prominent public safety and ecological challenge. After a six-year hiatus, NParks resumed crow culling via shooting operations in March 2026. Not sure how effective it will be, I still see lots of crows flying around Hougang area.

14 Jun 2026 - Make Walking More Fun with Geocaching

In order to make the walk more fun at Ang Mo Kio Linear Park, we downloaded an app called Geocaching and started our treasure hunt adventure. The Geocaching® mobile app acted as our digital compass and treasure map, turning our smartphone into a high-tech tracking device. The core of the app is its interactive map. We could view nearby caches in real-time, toggle between street views and satellite imagery, and see exactly which direction we were facing as we walked toward a target. This is perfect for linear parks as they are long, continuous paths, and geocachers can easily map out a sequential route. We could move seamlessly from one cache to the next, treating the park like a real-life video game level where every few hundred meters offers a brand-new puzzle to solve.

The app is designed for both beginners and experienced players, using your phone’s built-in GPS to guide you within feet of a hidden cache. Below are two of the caches that we had found during our walk. If you intend to give it a try, all the best to your treasure hunting adventure! :-)

14 Jun 2026 - Morning Walk along Ang Mo Kio Linear Park

We went for our weekend morning walk today at Luxus Hills Park. It is a 6.2-hectare green space located along the north side of Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5, stretching from Seletar Green Avenue to Seletar Road.

The park uses a series of hillocks, mounds, and meandering footpaths as a nod to the area's history as a 19th-century rubber estate tied to the Seletar Hills.

As this is more like a neighborhood park rather than a nature park, we did not expect to see much wildlife here.  However, we still managed to see the following birds.
