Our next stop after lunch is War Remnants Museum. It is a unique museum in Vietnam that systematically study, collect, conserve and display exhibits on war crimes and consequences inflicted on the Vietnamese by foreign aggressive forces. At the same time, the Museum also appeals to everyone to oppose unjust wars, preserve global peace, promote friendship and solidarity among nations.
The museum consists of an open-air exhibition area as well as three floors of indoor exhibits. As we entered the museum, the life-sized fighter jets, helicopters, tanks, artilleries and bombs that were used during the war immediately caught our attention.
Another outdoor exhibition area showcases the Imprisonment System during the Vietnam War. Following is the "Sunbathing Room" (aka Tiger Cage) which has no roof. Prisoners were forced to strip naked and exposed themselves to the scorching heat, the cold rain during the day or the freezing fog at night. From the outdoor exhibits, we then proceeded indoor which are mostly air-conditioned galleries. Other than the exhibits here, what we enjoyed most was the temporary escape from the heat outside.
After reading all the articles throughout the museum, we realized that most of the soldiers did not want to participate in the war. They were mostly being ordered and forced by their leaders without having any other option. As we went through the galleries, there were many more sad stories.
We spent about 1.5 hours in this museum and by the time we left, it was about 3pm.
