14 Jun 2025 - PEK Day 1: Wangfujing Pedestrian Street (王府井步行街)

In the heart of Beijing lies Wangfujing Pedestrian Street (王府井步行街), the city’s ultimate retail playground. It is a lively, brightly lit stretch where modern shopping, historic charm, and street food adventures come together.
One thing I must mention is that the drainage system along the street was quite bad.  There were puddles of water everywhere and it's almost impossible to walk along the street without having rainwater seep into our shoes.
The pedestrian street runs for about 800 meters, flanked by both global brands and distinctly Chinese specialty shops.
Beijing APM Mall is one of Wangfujing’s biggest malls.  It blends international labels like Uniqlo, Zara, and H&M with trendy cafés and dessert shops.
As the rain was getting heavier, we decided to go indoor, and hopefully find something interesting.
There were a couple of Anime and Figurine shops, but they did not have what Jerlene was looking for.
When we passed by luckin coffee, the two ladies cannot resist the temptation and went in to get some drinks.
When the rain got lighter, we returned to the walking street and continued our exploration of the area.
At the northern end of Wangfujing sits St. Joseph’s Church, also known as the Wangfujing Cathedral. Built in 1904 on the site of an earlier 17th-century church, it’s a striking gray-brick structure with Romanesque arches and twin bell towers.
Visitors are welcome to walk through the church grounds and visit its interior.
I took an interesting photo of a line of people each holding an umbrella strolling down the street.  :-)
