Our weekly morning walks today took place at Sengkang Riverside Park and Floating Wetland. Sengkang Riverside Park isn’t just a place to jog. It’s home to the largest man-made floating wetland in Singapore.
We spotted quite a number of birds along the way.Within the park, there is an Allotment Gardens.
At an open area in the park, we saw several colourful macaws flying freely. These aren't wild birds, but rather highly trained pets belonging to a dedicated community of enthusiasts who gather to let their feathered companions stretch their wings. The most fascinating part isn't just the flying, but the bond of trust between the birds and their owners.
From Sengkang Riverside Park, we walked under a highway towards Sengkang Floating Wetland, the most iconic feature here. Spanning about 2,400 square meters (roughly half a football field), this isn't just for aesthetics.
The wetland uses aquatic plants to naturally filter the water in the Punggol Reservoir, improving water quality without heavy chemicals. We walked on the boardwalk right out onto the water. It’s a prime spot for catching the sunset or watching the local wildlife do their thing. At the end of the boardwalk, there were few large, fruit-shaped shelters (Giant Mangosteen) that provide great shade and a quirky backdrop for our "nature explorer" photos.
After a brief rest, we walked back to Sengkang Riverside Park.
Watch the wildlife that we saw during the walk in the following video.
