7 Mar 2026 - HortPark

We sent Javier to NUS early this morning as he had signed up for Singapore Precollegiate Integration Bee (SPIB) competition. Today was round 1 which consists of a 2-hour written test. While waiting for him, we decided to go for a walk at HortPark which is nearby. As we entered the park, we saw a quaint, colonial-era building called HortHouse. Originally built in the early 20th century as staff quarters for the former Federated Malayan States Railway, it was restored in 2017 and is now a recognized part of the Queenstown Heritage Trail.
There is a two-story HortCentre building that serves as the visitor centre. It showcased gardening attractions, which include the Green Roof and the Lifestyle Corner.
As we walked through the gardens, we immediately noticed the peaceful ambiance.
We meandered through a series of specialized gardens, including the Butterfly Garden, the calming Silver Garden, and even a unique Balinese Garden. There were flowers in bloom almost everywhere, along with edible plants and fruits, making it a feast for the senses.
Spotting wildlife is part and parcel of our weekly morning walk.
After our walk, we went to 大南洋 cafe at Geneo for some toast and coffee, as it's still a bit early to pick Javier up.
