1 Mar 2026 - Punggol Park

We decided to go somewhere nearby for our weekend walk this morning. Looking at all the parks around our place, Punggol Park was a great choice as it's just a short 5 mins car ride away. It is a five-hectare sanctuary where the "Hougang vibe" meets genuine tranquility. We visited this park many many years back when everyone was crazy about "Pokemon Go" game.
The main highlight of the park is the massive pond. In the early morning light (around 7:00 AM to 8:00 AM), the water acted like a giant mirror. We could see the surrounding HDB flats and lush trees reflected perfectly on the surface. It’s incredibly still, save for the occasional ripple from a turtle or a fish deciding to start its day with a jump.
There is also an Allotment Gardens within the park where residents can lease small plots to cultivate their own plants and vegetables.
As the park was quite open and there were lots of people all around the park either jogging, exercising or simply brisk walking like us, we did not expect to see much wildlife. However, we were wrong. In fact, we managed to spot quite a number of birds which we do not normally see, such as Sunda Pied Fantail, Oriental Magpie-Robin, Olive-backed Sunbird, Asian Openbill Stork and White Breasted Waterhen.
After walking round the massive pond once, we decided to go a for a second round to cover the distance we targeted for. Overall, it's quite a nice walk although I prefer a quieter park with lesser crowd.
