29 Sep 2023 - Dinner at Dan's Steaks @ Serangoon Garden

We decided to eat out this evening as Tracy had cravings for steaks.  Dan's Steaks at Serangoon Garden was our dinner venue.  We had the Tender Pan-Seared Octopus as our starters.  Very nice!
The main course was none other than their most popular NZ River lands Black Angus Ribeye steak.
Great food and nice ambience!

16 Sep 2023 - F1 @ Marina Bay Street Circuit

This is our second time catching the Formula One actions "live" at Marina Bay Street Circuit.  Singapore GP is one of the few night races and considered one of the premier races in the F1 calendar.
The last time we watched the race was at Padang Grandstand.  Today we watched it at the Stamford Grandstand, which seems a lot more crowded.
The check in process was a breeze and well organized.
Today was the Qualifying Race which started at 9pm sharp.
I never expect to see F1 Safety Car to be deployed during a qualifying race.  After the "crash" incident, the race was delayed for about 45 minutes, before the next round started.
Somehow, I felt that the race tonight was more exciting and the crowd was more energetic than the last time we were here.

5 Sep 2023 - NYP EAE application unsuccessful

Jerlene received an email from NYP that her EAE application was unsuccessful.  She was pretty disappointed, and I tried to convince her that it is not the end of the world.  She can still try to apply for her preferred course based on her actual "O" level results.  In other to do that, she will have to work harder to prepare for her "O" level examination, which is going to take place in a month's time.  Jia you, Jerlene!  Just work hard and you will achieve your goal.

25 Aug 2023 - Interview for NYP EAE

Based on Jerlene's portfolio and her written assessment, she was shortlisted for a virtual interview today as part of her NYP EAE application.  Wish her all the best!

13 Aug 2023 - Distinction for Grade Six Ballet by BBOdance

Once again, Jerlene achieves Distinction for her Grade Six Ballet exam, by BBOdance, an international dance awarding organisation previously known as the British Ballet Organization (BBO).  This time round, she actually barely made it.  Nonetheless, it's still a distinction, so well done, Jerlene!  :-)

11 Aug 2023 - Great dinner and night out at Changi Jewel

After work, we went to Changi Jewel to have our dinner.  Based on some reviews that we saw on the internet, we decided to try out The Sampanman.  This casual dining place is cozy and exudes a countryside charm.  The Sampanman brand pays homage to the ingenuity of traditional seafaring ethnic groups of the Southeast Asian region like the orang laut that lived on wooden boats on coastal islands. These ethnic groups made a living from fishing and are known for having access to fresh seafood produce, allowing a diet that predominantly consists of delicious and hearty seafood recipes.  Following were what we ordered.  It was delicious!
After dinner, we walked to the world famous Rain Vortex for the free daily light show.  We never get bored looking at the majestic waterfall.  The whole place is such an architectural marvel with no pillar!

9 Aug 2023 - Celebrating 58th Years of Independence

Happy Birthday, Singapore!

We were able to witness the NDP Flypast by our RSAF squadrons on our roof terrace.
At night, there were fireworks at various heartlands around the island as usual.  Wish Singapore to continue to achieve more at the global stage, which we all can be proud of.

9 Aug 2023 - Lunch at Sushi Tei @ Serangoon Garden

It's National Day today and we had our lunch at Sushi Tei @ Serangoon Garden.  I thought there would be a queue to the restaurant but surprisingly, there wasn't one, which was great.  The food here never disappoints.
During payment, I realized that there is a membership programme whereby I could sign up for $68 and instantly receive $80 credit which I could use immediately.  As such, it's a no brainer to sign up.

6 Aug 2023 - Huge Slug!

While doing gardening at our roof terrace today, I was shocked by a huge slug creeping around.  I had seen slugs in the past, but this is no doubt the largest so far.  Yucks!

26 Jul 2023 - Dean's List Award during TJC College Day

Javier managed to get into TJC's Dean's List based on his academic results in IP1.  It means he is ranked among the top 5% of the cohort.  Today he received the certificate as well as a plaque for this achievement.  Well done, Javier!

21 Jul 2023 - Poly EAE Written Assessment and CHAGEE Honkai Star Rail Event

Jerlene was shortlisted for the written assessment for NYP's EAE, which was held in NYP today.  Before that, we went to Ang Mo Kio Hub for our lunch.  We had another objective for coming to Ang Mo Kio.  And that is to buy CHAGEE drinks which comes with Honkai Star Rail merchandise.  When we arrived at the CHAGEE store in Ang Mo Kio, there was already a long queue snaking along the pavement to the store.  We joined in the queue hoping that it won't be too long.  However, after queueing for half an hour and the queue did not move much, I decided to drive Jerlene to NYP for the EAE written assessment while Tracy continue to queue.  And when I returned, she's still in the queue.  I took over the queueing while Tracy took a break at a nearby Hawker Centre.  Sad to say, after we paid for our orders, we still had to queue to collect the drinks.  Tracy waited there while I drove to NYP to pick Jerlene up.  By the time we returned, Tracy was still waiting for the drinks.....sigh......
The merchandise includes cup sleeves, cup coasters, special edition stickers and in-game reward cards (below).
We are not going to queue for such merchandise again.  It's not worth it and we are not even die-hard fans.

15 July 2023 - Another Relaxing Afternoon

Just another relaxing Saturday afternoon admiring the beautiful sky.  :-)

28 Jun 2023 - Polytechnic Early Admissions Exercise (EAE)

The Polytechnic Early Admissions Exercise (Poly EAE) is an aptitude-based admissions exercise that allows students to apply for and receive conditional offers for admission to polytechnics prior to receiving their final grades.  This is similar to the Direct School Admission for Junior College (DSA-JC) Exercise.

After visiting NYP early this year during its open house, Jerlene has made up her mind that she wants to pursue a Diploma in Communication & Motion Design at NYP's School of Media Design.  As such, she had submitted her application via the EAE Portal today.  As part of the application, she had submitted a mandatory 600-characters write-up about the courses that she's applying.  In addition, she also submitted another 1,000 characters write-up on her achievements and talents.  In a week's time, she will be notified whether she will get shortlisted for the next round, which is some form of written assessment or test.  Wish her all the best!

14 Jun 2023 - Perth Day 7: Westfield Carousel Shopping Centre

We spent the remaining few hours of this trip at Westfield Carousel.  It's a very huge shopping mall and it's just a short 15 mins drive to the airport.
You can get 4 hours of free parking by using the Westfield app and sign up as a member.  Non-members will receive 2 hours free parking.  Of course, if you do not mind the hassle, you can also leave the car park before the time is up and re-enter to have another 2 or 4 hours of free parking.  Westfield Carousel uses a parking system that uses number plate recognition technology to replace paper tickets.
We had our dinner at Ippudo Japanese Restaurant.  The food at Ippudo never disappoint.
This marks the end of our short 1-week Perth Trip.  For those who follow my posts, hope you find some of the info useful if you do plan to visit Perth.
