It was dinner time when we reached Akureyri. Through reviews from tripadvisor, we decided to go for Akureyri Fish and Chips. It can be located easily in the town center due to its bright red exterior.
We ordered Fish and Chips as well as Fish Soup. Though it's pretty pricey, the taste and freshness of the fish was one of the best so far.
After dinner, we explored around the city center.
Iceland has always been a place related to Vikings and Trolls, which we "encountered" as we walked along the street in Akureyri city center.
Akureyrarkirkja or The Church of Akureyri is a prominent Lutheran church in Akureyri. Located in the centre of the city, and towering above the city on a hill, it was designed by Guðjón Samúelsson, and completed in 1940.
We did not enter the church as the door was locked. However from what we had read, Akureyrarkirkja contains a notably large 3200-pipe organ, a unique interpretation of the crucifixion and a suspended ship hanging from the ceiling which reflects an old Nordic tradition of giving offerings for the protection of loved ones at sea.
We were a bit surprised to see a huge Cruise Ship that had docked at the pier.
Nearby the pier is the Hof Cultural and Conference Center.
