We touched down at Penang International Airport at about 9:30am. Not much queuing at the immigration clearance which was great. Once we were out at the arrival hall, first thing we did was to "grab" a transport to our hotel at George Town. When I was here about 20 years ago, it's not easy to move around in Penang. Now with Grab, it makes it so easy and economical. The journey from the airport to George Town is about 30mins depending on the traffic.
We arrived at the hotel and left our luggage there as it's too early to check in. We then walked over to the nearby Prangin Mall for breakfast. As we did not plan any specific itinerary for our first day here, our intention was to explore the surrounding vicinity. After breakfast, we walked across a connecting bridge to Komtar. My impression of Komtar was still an old fashioned shopping mall but now it has "transformed" parts of it to become a theme park with full of fun, known at "The TOP Penang".
Since we had no specific plan for today, we decided to buy the TOP fun passes which include multiple entries to most of the attractions here. The first attraction we went was the Window of the Top. It consists of an Observatory Deck at Level 65 and an outdoor Rainbow Skywalk at Level 68 (rooftop). After taking the lift to Level 65, we were being led to a room to watch a short video about Komtar and its transformation. When the video ended, the screen suddenly opened up and we were presented with a stunning view of George Town and beyond. It was amazing!
The air-conditioned Observatory Deck also features a glass walkway that lets you look all the way down below.
Javier had no fear walking and sitting right on it.
For those who wants to have more thrill, they can try hanging out by the edge of the building.
From Level 65, we took the lift to Level 68 where we had a superb outdoor view of Penang, including Penang bridge that stretched across the straits.
One of the highlights here is the Rainbow Skywalk, offering visitors the thrilling experience of walking on air 249m above ground.
Beside the breathtaking views, visitors can find double rainbows that arch into a pot of gold, a horseshoe chair and a unique hanging musical orchestra.
No one should miss sitting on the below horseshow chair, which claims to be the Luckiest Chair in the World.
As our passes allow multiple entries to the attractions, we came back at night to have a different view, and it's equally impressive.
Below is the famous octopus bridge that will light up in different colours.
This is not our first time sitting on a glass floor up in a tower at night. We had experienced this previously when we were at Shanghai Oriental Pearl Tower last December.
The night view was fantastic and we could see Penang Bridge very clearly.
We did the Rainbow Skywalk by night as well.
At the below Pot of Gold, we tried throwing coins at the bell right in the middle for good luck!
