25 Nov 2009 - Day 3 (Part 2): Yarra River Cruise
After lunch, we walked down to Flinders Street, crossed the Yarra River to Southbank where the departure point of Melbourne River Cruise is. There are two routes for the river cruise. One is to glide gracefully upriver past the Royal Botanic Gardens, Olympic Park and Herring Island while the other is to go downriver past the Crown Entertainment Complex, the 19th century Polly Woodside sailing ship, Docklands and the Westgate Bridge. Our smartvisit cards entitle us to either upriver or downriver and we chose the former.
River cruise is a relaxing way to get a feel for this diverse city from the lazy, meandering reaches of the Yarra River. There was commentary on the cruise and also complimentary coffee and tea. The cruise was very stable where people can walk around freely. As such there is no issue for Javier. In fact, he had his cereal while we cruised down the river, After this cruise, it's now Javier's turn to accomplish the "land, air and sea" experience. Jerlene accomplished this feat two years ago when we went to Sydney.
The cruise went under quite a number of beautiful bridges before making a turn at Herring Island and returned back to Southbank. The entire cruise duration is about an hour.
Our next destination is where we believe Jerlene and Javier will enjoy, the Melbourne Aquarium.
