We took the metro to Nanjing East Road and walked towards the Bund.
Along the way, we saw a number a buildings that were marked as Heritage Architecture.
At the eastern end is the central section of the Bund, featuring the famous Peace Hotel (和平饭店).
The hotel has two different buildings. The larger North Building is called Sassoon House, built by Sir Victor Sassoon, of the Sassoon family, which built a Shanghai business and real estate empire in the early 20th century. Separated from the North Building by Nanjing Road, the South Building dates back to the 1850s, when it was known as the Central Hotel. In 1903, the hotel was restructured and renamed the Palace Hotel.
