5 Dec 2018 - NZ Day 5: Huka Prawn Park

We left Rotorua this morning and moved on to our next destination Taupo.  After an hour's drive, we arrived at Huka Prawn Park, situated on the banks of the beautiful Waikato River.  There were so much to do in this park where we could spend all day here.  It is also the one and only Prawn Park in New Zealand.
The first activity that Jerlene and Javier tried was the paddle boat.  They paddled on a huge pond and there is no time limit.  They could paddle as long as they like.
After that, they switched over to Aqua Trike.  Three wheels, wide paddles and flexible steering make the Aqua Trike easy and smooth to ride over a pond filled with prawns!
Next we decided to do some prawning.  Here we could fish all day, all equipment provided, and once we’ve landed your catch, we can cook it up and sample the local delicacy right here beside the fishing ponds!  However, prawning is an activity that requires lots of patience and time.  As there were so much to do at this park, we decided to try out other activities after 30 minutes of "unsuccessful" prawning.  Having said that, it was still fun, especially for Jerlene and Javier, who tried this for the very first time.
Below are some of the fun activities in the park.
The Water Weights where Jerlene and Javier tried to balance themselves against a pail that was slowly filled with water,
We were given some fish food to feed the Trouts at the Trout Pond.
Jerlene and Javier had fun at the Adventure Walkways, which is a series of obstacle courses.
Taking a nice walk by the Waikato Riverside.  At regular interval, we could see speed boat zooming past on the river heading towards Huka Falls, which we will visit later.
We then took on a bush walk where our treasure hunt began.  Can you spot a prawn in the photo below?
Finally we came to a playground where lots of entertainment awaiting Jerlene and Javier.
The admission to the park includes a guided tour to the Aquarium, Hatchery, Nursery and the Pump House.
At the Hatchery, we could have a close look at the prawns and learn more about them.
We then moved on to the Prawn Nursery where more than a million baby prawns are raised each year.  We could even hand feed the baby prawns which felt so ticklish when they climbed onto your hands.
By this time, we had spent about 3 hours in this park.  After trying out a few more activities, we decided to have our lunch at the Park's Restaurant before leaving for our next destination.
