1 Dec 2018 - NZ Day 1: Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park

At about 2pm, we arrived at our accommodation for tonight.  We checked in to Hot Water Beach TOP 10 Holiday Park, which is located 700m from Hot Water Beach, a popular surfing destination on the stunning Coromandel Peninsula.
We booked a Ensuite unit which comes with a queen bed in an open-plan lounge with a separate room with a bunk bed.  Full ensuite with linen, towels, tea and coffee making facilities, fridge, microwave, heater and TV.  Most importantly, an attached bathroom.
There is also a barbeque pit on a large deck right outside of the unit.
After the long drive, we took a brief rest in the room.  Jerlene and Javier had been looking forward to December as they cannot wait to start opening up the hidden "treasures" on the Advent Calendars that we had bought last week.
Family owned and operated, this Holiday Park offers a full range of accommodation options and large sheltered sites in a natural bush and park setting with its own microclimate.  We spent sometimes exploring the site.  Javier challenged me to a game of chess, a big one!
After which, Jerlene and Javier had great fun jumping on the huge bouncing pillow.
Our original plan for this afternoon was to visit Cathedral Cove, which was a 10 minutes drive from Hot Water Beach.  Once we reached there, we realized there is no parking space around the starting point of the walking trail.  As it was raining at that time, we decided to come back tomorrow, hopefully with better weather.  On our way back to Hot Water Beach, we stopped by a lookout point with spectacular view of the ocean.
The best time to visit Hot Water Beach is two hours before and after low tide, which happened today at about 8:40pm.  As such, we bought some food from the park's cafe and had our dinner in our unit till around 6pm before walking to the beach.
