30 May 2017 - Iceland Day 5: Systrafoss

A short 15 mins drive from the beautiful Fjaðrárgljúfur Canyon brought us to Systrafoss (Sisters' fall). This waterfall is special in that there are two equal waterfalls side by side, almost falling like two white rivers down the mountain slope.
We took a short hike up the slope to have a closer look at the waterfall.
The waterfall is part of the river Fossá, which runs south from its source Systravatn.  To the south of Systrafoss runs the glacial river Skaftá.
This beautiful waterfall sits right in the middle of the village, Kirkjubæjarklaustur.  It takes its name from the sisters of the nearby Kirkjubæjar Abbey.
