Our first stop of the trip, Starbucks Reserve Roastery in Shanghai. We were here about 7 years ago (read this) when it just opened. However, we did not manage to enter the store at that time as there was a long queue outside the store. We took the metro to Nanjing West Road station and it's just a few minutes' walk to the place.
The interior of the Roastery is very spacious and there are seatings at every corner. Other than coffee, the store also sells pastries and cakes. The price was rather steep for a cup of coffee compared to other stores, but we just wanted to try it once in a nice ambience.
After we had our coffee, we went around the store to understand briefly how the entire coffee making process works. We went up to the second floor where we saw a huge roaster releasing coffee beans' potential flavor within after popping twice.
The most prominent structure in the store is a large copper cask. It is not only the visual center of the entire space, but also the place where the coffee beans will be set and stored to preserve their flavor.
We also saw many overhead pipes that distribute coffee beans throughout the Roastery from start to finish.
After our "self-guided" tour of the roastery, we decided to go look for some snacks nearby.
