It's a long metro ride of close to an hour from Shanghai city (Hailun Road Station) to Nanxiang Station. After alighting the metro, we were not sure of the direction to Nanxiang Ancient Town. We tried to follow the direction on Google Map, which was a slight detour. We could have cut through the shopping mall just next to the metro station.
Anyway, we ended up along the main road leading towards Nanxiang Ancient Town (南翔古镇).Before reaching the main ancient town, we arrived at Guyi Garden (古猗园) which we decided to pay a visit.
Guyi Garden, also known as the Ancient Yi Garden, is a true gem nestled within the charming Nanxiang in Shanghai. It offers a unique glimpse into Chinese history and garden design. With its stunning landscapes, captivating architecture, and peaceful atmosphere.
Built in the 16th century during the Ming Dynasty, Guyi Garden is considered one of the five most important classical gardens in Shanghai. Embodying the essence of Jiangnan gardens, Guyi Garden features a harmonious blend of natural elements, intricate architecture, and peaceful courtyards. Each element, from the winding paths to the strategically placed rocks and ponds, is meticulously arranged to create a sense of tranquility and connection with nature.
Not in Japan, no problem. We could see Sakura here in China. :-)Guyi Garden is divided into four distinct sections, namely Yi Garden, Flower Fragrance Park, Crane in Stream Pond and Moonlit Bamboo Park. Each of these sections offer a unique experience.
There is a nominal entrance fee to enter the garden. We left the garden just before it closed at 5pm.
