Tonight, we went on an overseas trip without our kids for the first time ever. Initially, we were procrastinating whether one of us should stay behind but the kids sort of assured us that they would be ok. They are getting more independent now. We will be flying to Shanghai and stay there for a few days before taking a train to RuiAn to meet up with our family.
It was a past midnight flight, and we chose to have our meals after takeoff instead of waking up to have our meal before landing. We touched down at Shanghai Pudong International Airport at about 6:30am. After clearing the immigration, we went straight to the Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) Train Station and bought a pair of round-trip tickets for the maglev train that operates between the Airport and Loyang Road Station. There is a discounted combo (一票通) which also includes a one-day Metro ticket in Shanghai.
The Shanghai maglev is the world's first commercial high-speed maglev and has a maximum cruising speed of 300 km/h. The journey takes 8 minutes and 10 seconds to complete the distance of 30 km. Not many people took maglev as there is a cheaper Metro option, but it will be a much longer journey (about 48 mins) and may not have a seat.Day 1: Check-in to Novotel Shanghai JingAn, Starbucks Reserve Roaster, Wujiang Road Leisure Street (吴江路休闲街), Zhang Yuan (张园), 1933 Old Millfun (1933老场坊), Guyi Garden (古猗园) @ Nanxiang (南翔), Nanxiang Ancient Town (南翔古镇)
