6 Dec 2018 - NZ Day 6: Tongariro River

After we checked out of the accommodation this morning, we drove to the nearby Tongariro River to take a relaxed morning stroll in the cool weather.
The Tongariro River is New Zealand's most fished river.  The pristine mountain water of the Tongariro River, the largest of Lake Taupo's tributaries, provides anglers with world class fly fishing.  The clean, cold, oxygen-rich water supports a wealth of aquatic insect life and provides perfect condition for trout.  The Tongariro is classed as one of the best trout fishing rivers in the world.  We were fascinated by how the angler casted his fly line in the river.  By the way, a Taupo Fishing District License is required to fish for trout here.
We took a short nature walk along the river before driving off to Tongariro National Park.
Along the way, we stopped by a scenic lookout point.  The view was spectacular although the weather did not look good.  We just had to pray that the sky would turn clearer when we took on the walks in Tongariro later.
