26 Apr 2025 - NGO Day 1: Mirai Tower and Oasis 21

We took the MRT from Nagoya PARCO to Sakae Station, which is just one stop away.  The moment we stepped out of the station, a towering structure stood right in front of us.
Standing at 180 meters, the Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER is Japan's oldest TV tower, completed in 1954. Its design, reminiscent of the Eiffel Tower, features two main observation decks: the indoor Sky Deck at 90 meters and the outdoor Sky Balcony at 100 meters, offering panoramic views of Nagoya.
The tower also houses a restaurant and gallery at 30 meters. In May 2021, it was renamed from Nagoya TV Tower to its current name.
Originally established in 1954, Hisaya Ōdori Park underwent a significant transformation, reopening in September 2020 as part of the RAYARD Hisaya-Ōdori Park project. This initiative introduced around 40 shops and eateries, many debuting in Nagoya, creating a dynamic space where visitors can enjoy both natural beauty and urban amenities.
Adjacent to the MIRAI TOWER, Oasis 21 is a multi-functional complex opened in 2002. Its most striking feature is the "Spaceship-Aqua," a large oval glass roof filled with water, suspended 14 meters above ground. This design not only provides a cooling effect but also creates mesmerizing reflections, especially when illuminated at night.
The rooftop of Oasis 21 in Nagoya, known as the "Spaceship-Aqua," is a distinctive architectural feature that offers visitors a unique blend of aesthetics, functionality, and eco-friendly design.  Its surface is covered with a shallow layer of water, creating gentle ripples that reflect sunlight during the day and city lights at night. This design not only provides a visually captivating experience but also contributes to cooling the area below, enhancing the comfort of visitors and reducing urban heat.
We accessed to the rooftop via elevator.  A perimeter walkway encircles the water feature, allowing for leisurely strolls and offering panoramic views of Nagoya's skyline, including the adjacent Chubu Electric Power MIRAI TOWER.
As evening falls, the Spaceship-Aqua transforms into a luminous spectacle. The interplay of lights and water creates a mesmerizing ambiance, making it a popular spot for photography and nighttime relaxation. Seasonal light displays further enhance its allure, offering visitors a different experience throughout the year.
