24 Aug 2026 - SHA Day 4: Shanghai Hongqiao Railway Station (上海虹桥火车站)

We left Shanghai for Wuzhen (乌镇) today via High-Speed Rail (HSR) from Hongqiao Railway Station.
We arrived early at the station to have our lunch before heading to the departure hall. Our lunch place was at 老乡鸡, where we picked up whatever dish we liked and made payment at the cashier.
Navigating a terminal of this size could feel overwhelming. The station operated like a massive, hyper-efficient airport across five distinct vertical levels. Though the departure hall (at Level 2) was huge, it's still crowded with travelers. Each train boarding gate was split into an "A" side and a "B" side. Gate A led to the front half of the bullet train (e.g., carriages 9–16), while Gate B dropped down to the back half (e.g., carriages 1–8).

Soon, we boarded the train and on our way to Tongxiang station. Though we bought 2nd class seats in a row of three, it was quite a comfortable ride.
It was a short 40-minute journey, and we arrived at Tongxiang Station (桐乡站). This is the nearest HSR station from Wuzhen. After we exited the station, we called for a DiDi ride to go directly to Wuzhen Visitor Centre.
