Another good thing about staying overnight inside Wuzhen Xizha Scenic Area was that we got to experience a very unique breakfast known as Zaochake (早茶客 / "Morning Tea Guests").
Far from a standard buffet table at a hotel, this event transformed an ancient Water Market (水上集市) into an immersive, living cultural market that replicated the lifestyle of old Jiangnan water traders. The breakfast worked like a food crawl. Instead of sitting down to a single menu, we wandered through traditional, steaming food stalls and stone arches to order fresh Jiangnan delicacies such as Qiaoliqiao Shaobing (桥里桥烧饼), Dingsheng Cake (定胜糕), Bubble Wontons (泡泡馄饨) and more...The most important rule of the Zaochake experience is its exclusivity. The breakfast market is strictly reserved for guests staying overnight at official hotels or homestays managed inside the Xizha Scenic Area (such as the Water Fair Inn or Tong'an Inn). Upon checking into our hotel yesterday, we were given an account in the official WeChat mini-program. With the account created, we simply walked stall-to-stall, scanning QR codes to redeem our favorite bites for free.
