26 Dec 2024 - BKK Day 4 (Khao Yai): PB Valley Khao Yai Winery

We started our adventure on Boxing Day with a visit to PB Valley Khao Yai Winery.  It's a 30 minutes' drive from our hotel (Lacol).
As we did not make an advance booking of the guided tour, the moment we arrived at about 10:15am, we immediately went to the reception to purchase the 11am guided tour.  Fortunately, we were slightly ahead of another big group of tourists and soon, the 11am guided tour were fully booked.
Since we had sometimes before the tour starts, we strolled around PB Valley to enjoy the nice weather and beautiful landscape.
PB Valley Winery is one of the country's premier and most renowned vineyards. Nestled among the foothills of the Khao Yai National Park, this family-owned winery has become a must-visit destination for wine enthusiasts and tourists alike, offering an immersive experience into the world of wine production in Thailand.
The PB Valley Vineyard spans over 100 hectares, with the majority of the land dedicated to grape cultivation. The region's unique climate, with its cool mountain breezes and rich soil, makes it ideal for growing grapes that thrive in slightly cooler temperatures.
At about 11am, we boarded a tram to embark on an hour-long guided tour at PB Valley Winery.
This was not our first time going on a guided tour in a winery and the last one was the Seppelt Wines Underground Tour at Grampians, Australia.  However, the entire experience was totally different.  The knowledgeable guide provided detailed explanations about the different grape varieties and production techniques, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.
The winery is equipped with modern technology, yet the family and staff maintain traditional winemaking techniques to ensure the authenticity of the wines. The blending process combines both local and international know-how to produce wines that reflect the essence of the Khao Yai region.
After we gone through the entire wine making process, we were invited to a wine-tasting session in the winery's tasting room.
Each guest was given a coupon to have a taste of a red wine, a white wine and a rose wine.  Those who do not take alcohol, can use the coupon to have a glass of sparkling grape juice.
Usually, wine tasting session is the last part of a winery tour but not for this one.  After we were done tasting the different flavors of wines, we boarded the train to the next area where we got to pick some grapes.
We had done many fruits picking in the past, but this was our first time picking grapes.  And it's cheap!
A bit of history here. PB Valley Winery was founded in 1997 by the Phayayothin family, whose vision was to create a high-quality Thai wine. The family saw the potential in the climate and soil of the Khao Yai area, which is known for its cool weather and fertile terrain, perfect for viticulture. Over the years, the winery has grown and established itself as one of the largest and most successful wine producers in Thailand.  Today, PB Valley produces a wide variety of wines, including both red and white varieties, made from international grape varieties such as Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chenin Blanc, and Chardonnay, as well as a few locally cultivated strains. The combination of these global grape varieties and the unique terrain of Khao Yai has led to the winery's distinctive and highly acclaimed wines.
