After 4 days of amazing adventures in Khao Yai, we checked out of our hotel this morning and embarked on our road trip back to Bangkok city. Before leaving Khao Yai region, we decided to visit Thepphitak Phunnaram Temple which was on the way towards Bangkok.
The temple's most striking feature is its colossal white seated Buddha statue, officially named Phra Buddha Sakyamuni Sri Sunthorn Thep Phitak. This impressive icon, visible from afar, radiates peace and tranquility.
Thepphitak Punnaram Temple serves as an active place of worship for Buddhist devotees. The temple's peaceful ambiance encourages meditation and reflection, making it a suitable destination for those seeking spiritual solace.
The temple is situated on a hillside, providing panoramic views of the surrounding Khao Yai National Park. The lush greenery and mountainous terrain create a picturesque backdrop, enhancing the temple's serene atmosphere. The sheer size of the statue is awe-inspiring, making it a prominent landmark in the Khao Yai region. It has a lap size of 27.5m and a height of 45m. The ears are 6.8m long. It was made of reinforced concrete and weighs 3000 tons. It stands prominently in the middle of the mountain at 112m above ground level.
The natural beauty of the area contributes to the overall sense of peace and contemplation that visitors experience. The path to worship the Buddha is a staircase on both sides, curved and concave in the shape of a Bodhi leaf, leading to the statue. There are 1,250 steps (both on left and right sides), which is equal to the number of Arahat disciples of the Lord Buddha. I attempted the first 200 steps and decided to turn back. If I were to proceed, it'll probably take me at least 2 hours to reach to the statue and back down to regroup with my family.
Beyond the main Buddha statue, the temple complex features intricate architectural details and artistic embellishments. Visitors can explore the various buildings and structures within the temple grounds, appreciating the craftsmanship and artistry that went into their creation.
In essence, Thepphitak Punnaram Temple offers a harmonious blend of spiritual devotion, artistic expression, and natural beauty, making it a must-visit destination in Khao Yai.
