After lunch, we crossed the road to visit Wat Pho, the Temple of the Reclining Buddha. Wat Pho, officially known as Wat Phra Chetuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Rajwararam, is a prominent Buddhist temple complex in Bangkok
It is renowned for its massive reclining Buddha statue and its status as a center for traditional Thai massage.The temple's most iconic feature is the enormous reclining Buddha, a gold-plated statue measuring 46 meters in length and 15 meters in height.
The Buddha's feet are adorned with intricate mother-of-pearl inlays depicting auspicious symbols. This represents Buddha entering nirvana.The Wat Pho complex encompasses numerous buildings, chedis (stupas), and courtyards. It houses a vast collection of Buddha images, making it one of the temples with the highest number of Buddha images in Thailand.
The four great Chedis, are a very beautiful and well-known section of the temple.Wat Pho is one of Bangkok's oldest temples, predating the city's establishment as the capital. It existed as a temple during the Ayutthaya period.
Wat Pho is a cultural and historical treasure, offering visitors a glimpse into Thailand's rich heritage and spiritual traditions.
