24 Dec 2024 - BKK Day 2 (Khao Yai): Khao Yai Thiang Windmill

Just a short 15 mins drive from Hobbit House, we arrived at Khao Yai Thiang Windmill, known for its scenic views and impressive wind turbines.  

After we got off our car at the parking lot, we immediately saw quite a number of wind turbines across a reservoir.  We decided to walk to the other side of the reservoir to take a closer look.

Khao Yai Thiang offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes, including the Lam Takhong Reservoir and the undulating hills that define the region.

Along the way, we came to a golden Buddha statue sheltered by a multi-headed Maga.  The statue represents Buddha's enlightenment and protection, with the Naga symbolizing both worldly power and spiritual awakening.

The Khao Yai Thiang Windmill is not just a functional structure; it is a symbol of harmony between technology and nature. The windmill's design is both elegant and practical, featuring traditional Dutch-style architecture with large, sweeping blades that turn gracefully in the breeze. The white structure contrasts beautifully with the surrounding greenery, creating a postcard-perfect scene.

The windmill site offers educational displays and information about wind energy and its benefits. Visitors can learn about the science behind wind power, the history of windmills, and the importance of renewable energy sources in combating climate change.
