13 Jun 2023 - Perth Day 6: Exploring Rottnest Island Settlement

After the interesting tour of Oliver Hill Guns and Tunnels, we returned to the Main Settlement area.
There are several places of interest here, one of which is the Wadjemup Museum.  Many sculptures and art works can be seen at a garden outside of the museum.
As we entered the Old Mill and Hay Store, we immediately felt the presence of the past in the cool, quiet rooms.  The mill stone, located in the museum’s Truth Telling Space, is a particularly moving artefact. The Aboriginal men and boys imprisoned on the island used it to grind wheat into flour, giving the building its name.
Upon leaving the museum, we continued our journey of island exploration with a renewed respect for the land we were visiting.
Along Thomson Bay, there were many accommodation options for visitors who want to stay for a few days to fully explore the island.
We continued our walk towards the northeastern part of the island.  We then came to a lookout point where we saw the "Mushroom Rock".
From afar, we could see some tall buildings and it's likely the CBD area of Perth City.
We never get bored with such beautiful scenery.
Rottnest Island sits peacefully in the Indian Ocean, blooming just above the water’s surface. A protected sanctuary for native wildlife, the island is a flourishing oasis for flora and fauna.  One unmistakable part of the Rottnest Island experience is a quokka sighting.
After a short break at the lookout point, we walked further north towards a lighthouse, which I will share more in my next post.
