13 Jun 2023 - Perth Day 6: Happiest Animal on Earth, The Quokkas!

As mentioned in one of my earlier posts, I promised to write about Quokkas, the "happiest" animal on earth, mainly due to its "smiley" face!
Isn't it adorable?  You can spot quokkas all over the settlement and if you missed them, you have not really experienced Rottnest Island.  They are the icon of the island.
Their story is literally written in the land. The name ‘Rottnest’ comes from 17th-century Dutch explorers who considered the animals to be large rats and bestowed the island, ‘Rat’s Nest’.
These curious and cheerful marsupials are recognised around the world.  They are a type of small wallaby and mainly norturnal, though we can see them lazing around during the day.
On Wadjemup or Rottnest Island, we are amongst the world’s largest quokka population with family groups found right across the island.  I cannot resist their cuteness and took tons of photos.  Say cheese, little cutie!
