13 Jun 2023 - Perth Day 6: Colourful Lighthouses by Night

In few of my earlier posts, I mentioned about two lighthouses, one green and one red.  So as the sky turned dark, we decided to drive to the lighthouse and have a closer look.  Firstly we visited the green lighthouse at South Mole.  It is one of the two cast iron towers, designed by C.Y. O'Connor.  The South Mole light was lit in 1903.
Initially we thought nobody would be here, but we were very wrong.  There were a lot of anglers fishing around the breakwater.
We then drove to the North Mole to visit the red lighthouse.  Once again, it's another local's favourite fishing spot.   Some interesting historical fact about these two lighthouses.  The Dioptric white occulting light of the four order was too powerful and caused confusion with the Woodman Point Leading Light, both of which were visible beyond Rottnest. The solution was to install a fixed green light on the South Mole. The North Mole light which had previously displayed a green light, would henceforth carry a fixed red light.
I tried to capture the Milky Way from here but not very successful.
