10 Jun 2023 - Perth Day 3: Hamelin Bay

After lunch at Augusta Town, we drove to Hamelin Bay, which is 15 mins drive away.  The bay is nestled between Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste on the southwest coast of Western Australia.  It is named after French explorer Jacques Félix Emmanuel Hamelin, who sailed through the area in about 1801.  It was also a small settlement and port in Western Australia.
The jetty was established in 1882 to service the timber milling operations, and later extended in 1898. Only a few piles of the original jetty remain on site currently (below).
I read that Stingray can be seen here at shallow water throughout the year though the chances to see them are higher during summer when the water is clearer and calmer.  As it's winter now and water sea seemed rough, we did not manage to see them.
