We reached Hyden Town at about 3:30pm. The beautiful Lake Magic is just one kilometer north of Wave Rock. Lake Magic is a naturally occurring gypsum-based salt lake, which has never been dry. Nothing grows or lives in the lake due to the gypsum content. It is a clear lake with white beach sand around the perimeter.
We drove round the perimeter of the lake following the direction on Google Map in search of Wave Rock Resort. However, when we reached a small dirt road that looked like the entrance, the barrier could not be raised up. We then did some read up about the accommodation and realized that we were supposed to check in at the Wave Rock Park entrance, which we passed by earlier. As such, we drove back to Wave Rock Park entrance and indeed, there was a reception for guests check in. The actual entrance to Wave Rock Resort is just across the road from Wave Rock Park.
Wave Rock Resort consists of fourteen self-contained-waterfront villas at the edge of the spectacular Lake Magic.
Each villa has 2 bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, ensuite, private courtyard, air-conditioning, free WIFI and could sleep up to six people. The verandah gave a comfortable colonial “cottage” feel and are partially screened to allow enjoyment of the outdoors without interference from insects.
A short walk from our villa is an amazing salt pond whose buoyancy and therapeutic properties are greater than those of the Dead Sea. As it's winter now in Australia, the water was too cold for us to take a dip. However, the beautiful sunset view here was not to be missed.
At this time of the year, sunset is around 5:20pm. The photos below were taken at about 6:30pm.
I tried aiming my iPhone 14 Pro towards the direction of the Milky Way in the sky. As it was pretty cloudy that night, below were the best I could capture.
