17 Nov 2023 - Osaka Day 8: Osaka Castle (Osakajo)

From Osaka Museum of History, we could see Osaka Castle from a distance.  As such, we simply followed the direction towards the castle.
Along the way, we admired the fall foliage by the roadside which started to turn yellow, orange and some already turn red.
First we arrived at the entrance to the castle compound.
We were here 15 years ago and at that time, we only walked around the castle perimeter since Jerlene was in a stroller.  This time round, we decided to enter the castle tower.
The castle tower is now entirely modern on the inside and even features an elevator for easier accessibility.  It houses an informative museum about the castle's history and Toyotomi Hideyoshi.  This castle is different from Himeiji Castle, where I had to carry Jerlene all the way up many flights of steep stairs to the top of the castle tower.  Anyway, as there was a long queue to take the elevator, Jerlene, Javier and I decided to take the stairs while mommy took the lift.
At the tower top, we could go outdoor and had a 360° spectacular view of the surrounding.
It was very windy and so difficult to take a nice photo of ourselves.  I did not wear a cap then as it would likely be blown away.
We spent about 20 minutes admiring the incredible views outside the tower top before getting back inside the castle tower.
The construction of Osaka Castle (大阪城, Ōsakajō) started in 1583 on the former site of the Ishiyama Honganji Temple, which had been destroyed by Oda Nobunaga thirteen years earlier. Toyotomi Hideyoshi intended the castle to become the center of a new, unified Japan under Toyotomi rule. It was the largest castle at the time.
After exiting the castle tower, we continued to walk round the castle ground and admired the castle architecture from different angles.
The castle tower is surrounded by secondary citadels, gates, turrets, impressive stone walls and moats.
We left Osaka Castle at about 4pm.
By the time we returned to Namba area, the sky had already turned dark and started to rain.  We waited a while for the rain to get lighter before slowly making our way to Pokemon Cafe.
