15 Nov 2023 - Osaka Day 6: Mermaid Statue and Tempozan Park

After lunch, we strolled down behind the Special Art Gallery to the southern end of the harbor, where we saw a statue of a little mermaid looking out to Osaka Bay.  This statue depicts the main character of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale, Little Mermaid.
Carlsberg A/S of Denmark donated the statue to the City of Osaka in June 1995 as part of an ongoing series of cultural exchanges between the Port of Osaka and the Port of Copenhagen, Denmark.  The statue was made by an organization who decided to carrying on the work and spirit of Edvard Eriksen, the artist who created the mermaid statue gracing the Port of Copenhagen.
Below is a back view of Kaiyukan Aquarium from Port of Osaka.
We then strolled down towards the nearby Tempozan Park
We could see Universal Studios Japan from the park by looking across the bay.
Mt. Tempo is famous for being the smallest mountain in Japan, standing at 4.5 metres.  Even the summit is hidden by the park, you can see the sign for the top of Mt. Tempo.  It was created in the 1830s by piling up sediment dredged from construction on the Ajigawa river.  In 1958, the mountain opened as a park.
There is a monument of Meiji Emperor's review place that he watched the new government warship in the first year of the Meiji period nearby.
We could get very close to the Tempozan Bridge.
Time for our family photo, back facing the sun!  We took such photos in almost all of our past trips.  :-)
This bronze statue (below) was built to honor the achievements of Sutezo Nishimura, the first director of the Osaka Port Construction Office, who devoted himself to the opening and development of Osaka Port.
There were many pinecones scattered all around the ground.
When we were about to exit the park, we realized that we were actually at the park's main entrance.  In other words, we had entered the park from a side entrance earlier.
When the sun was about to set, Tempozan Bridge started to turn reddish.  It's beautiful with the fall foliage around.
We then walked back to the Giant Ferris Wheel.
