14 Jun 2024 - Tokyo Day 5: Kanda Myojin Shrine

Our first stop of the day is Kanda Myojin Shrine.  It is often referred to as the "Shrine of Otaku" due to its proximity to Akihabara, Tokyo's famous electronics and anime district.  This nickname is a reflection of the shrine's popularity among otaku (people with a passionate interest in Japanese pop culture) who frequent the area.
Kanda Myojin Shrine is a historic Shinto shrine located in Chiyoda, Tokyo. With a history dating back over 1,200 years, it is one of the most important shrines in the city.  Originally built in the 8th century, the shrine was moved to its current location in the early 17th century. During the Edo period, it became a significant place of worship for the Tokugawa shogunate.
The main shrine building is a beautiful structure with traditional Japanese architecture.  The shrine is known as a protector of Tokyo and is often visited by people seeking blessings for business, success, and good fortune.
The Zuishin-mon Gate is an impressive main gate of the shrine, decorated with colorful carvings.
By embracing digital technologies, Kanda Myojin Shrine is able to connect with a more diverse and global audience, while still preserving its traditional values and practices.
