18 Aug 2026 - CKG Day 1: People's Park (人民公园)

After taking an uphill walk from Baixiangju, we arrived at Chongqing People’s Park (重庆人民公园). Established in 1926, this is Chongqing's very first public park. It offers a stark, beautiful contrast to the surrounding glass skyscrapers. True to Chongqing's vertical nature, People’s Park is not flat. It is carved directly into the hillside, structured across multiple steep terraces connected by mossy stone staircases and winding pathways.
Tucked into the foliage were quiet historical reminders, including the Sichuan Army’s Anti-Japanese War Constitutional Monument. It stands as a somber tribute to the local soldiers who fought during WWII.
Historically, the park was famous for its lively morning bird market. While large-scale trading has been scaled back, we could still find local elders hanging their ornate bamboo birdcages from the tree branches, sipping tea while listening to the birds sing.
After the climbing up and down, we were very tired by this time and decided to go for early dinner.
