After arriving at the main parking lot or drop-off zone, we passed through the ticket gates at the surface level. From the entrance plaza, there were a few flights of steps and then we came to a tunnel.
As we stepped into this massive, 228-meter-long tunnel carved directly through the solid karst mountain rock, we felt like we were stepping through a time machine. The tunnel served as a dreamlike light and shadow installation. Nearly a hundred high-powered projectors line both walls, displaying vivid 3D animations of the Wu River, historical boat trackers, and Wulong's iconic Three Natural Bridges
As we reached the end of the tunnel, we emerged out onto the other side of the mountain and were greeted by a breathtaking revelation. We were suddenly standing on a pathway suspended inside the Taoyuan Grand Canyon, completely surrounded by towering, 200-meter-high vertical cliffs
We then followed a winding, descending stone walkway for a few more minutes. As we wrapped around the final bend, a massive 2,700-seat amphitheater came into full view, perfectly built into the valley floor facing a towering limestone cliff face that served as the ultimate stage backdrop.
Impression Wulong (印象武隆) is a massive, live-action nighttime spectacular directed by the legendary filmmaker Zhang Yimou (张艺谋) along with co-directors Wang Chaoge (王潮歌) and Fan Yue (樊跃). The performance took place inside a U-shaped canyon with a staggering 180-meter vertical drop. The 2,700-seat amphitheater is designed so the stands blend directly into the canyon floor, placing the audience right in the middle of the performance space.
The main theme of the 70-minute show focused on the Boat Tracker Work Songs (川江号子), the traditional, booming work songs sung by the historic boat trackers of the Wu River (乌江). As modern engines rendered the trade obsolete, the show served to preserve the memory, resilience, and unyielding spirit of these heritage laborers.

The narrative unfolded through the eyes of an old tracker telling stories to his grandson, brought to life by stunning 3D lasers, projection mapping, and echo effects bouncing off the canyon walls.
It was really a very unique experience to watch such amazing outdoor performance at night and in the middle of massive canyon walls.
