Our first stop in Wulong District (武隆区) was Fairy Mountain National Forest Park (仙女山国家森林公园). Known for its vast subalpine meadows, dense virgin forests, and crisp mountain air, this place offered a stark, refreshing contrast to Chongqing’s bustling, humid urban center.
We alighted the tour coach and transferred to an iconic red mini train to continue our ascend to Fairy Mountain. The slow-paced ride snaked through the valleys and pine groves, offering panoramic views of the landscape.
At an average elevation of 1,900 meters, Fairy Mountain boasts unique geographical features that have earned it a nickname of the "Eastern Switzerland". The temperature then was about 7°C.
The park features 100,000 acres of forests and 330,000 acres of natural grasslands, offering a rare combination of alpine meadows and dense woods.
The crown jewel of the park is its rolling green meadows. It was very foggy when we first entered the park.
After a while, the mist started to clear, and we had a superb view of the Great Grassland. The vast open space juxtaposed against dark pine forests created a postcard-perfect view.
We spent about 45 minutes wandering around the grassland before leaving by taking the mini train again.
