19 Dec 2019 - Cruise Day 9 (Abu Dhabi): Exploring Abu Dhabi City Center

Our shore excursion for today was in the evening so we had quite a few hours during the day to visit the city center in Abu Dhabi.  All the passengers from the cruise must get their passports stamped at the cruise terminal, even if they had no intention to leave the ship.
From the cruise terminal, there were free shuttles which run throughout the day at regular intervals that brought us to the city centre.
We alighted the shuttle at the entrance to World Trade Center (WTC) Mall, an iconic landmark within the historic business district.
We did a bit of window shopping around the mall and visited LuLu Hypermart.  This is quite a huge supermarket and we probably would get some local delights here to bring back home.
We then decided to go outdoor and explore WTC mall vicinity.  It's all high-rise buildings around us just like in Dubai.
There are many mosques located at different parts of the city.  We passed by at least four after just 5 minutes of walking around.
We saw several unique structures across the road and we decided to walk over to take a look.
This is the Al Madfaa Heritage Park which showcases interesting sculptures of Middle Eastern-related objects.
We walked one round through the park before heading back to WTC mall.
World Trade Centre Mall is designed to resemble a traditional Arabian market.  As we would still be in Abu Dhabi tomorrow, we intended to come here again.  For now, we decided to return to our ship for a late lunch and get ready for our upcoming shore excursion, a visit to Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque.
We had our lunch by the windows with a great view of the city skyline.
While on our way to the Grand Mosque, we passed by a building that looks similar to Marina Bay Sands (MBS) back home.
