23 Nov 2022 - Day 10: (Cape Otway) Cape Otway Lightstation

The Cape Otway Lightstation is located a short drive off the Great Ocean Road, through the serene forest of the Otway National Park.
Unfortunately, after arriving at the Lighthouse entrance, we saw a notice saying the lightstation is closed on Wednesday and Thursday.  It seemed like many visitors were unaware of the opening time as the car park was pretty full.
However, it won't be a wasted trip because there are several walking trails around that lead us to various lookout points.
We decided to take the walk to the Cape Otway Lookout.
Cape Otway Lighthouse is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia.  Hundreds of lives were lost in shipwrecks off Cape Otway – a sad but fascinating history which led to the building of the Lightstation on the coast at the foot of the impenetrable forests of the Otways.
We then embarked on another walk to have different view of the lighthouse.
Cape Otway Lightstation is considered Australia’s most significant lighthouse and is also known as the ‘Beacon of Hope”. The light established in 1848 is perched on towering sea cliffs 90 metres above where Bass Straight and the Southern Ocean collide.
It's a very cooling and relaxed walk.
Below videos are some highlights of our visit to Cape Otway.
