22 Nov 2022 - Day 9: (Great Ocean Road) Bay of Martyrs

A short 5 minutes' drive from Bay of Islands lookout, we arrived at Bay of Martyrs, which is a part of the Bay of Islands Coastal Park.
The Bay of Martyrs itself is 2.5 kilometres long and inside the bay, there are two smaller bays; Crofts Bay and Massacre Bay.
Bay of Martyrs offers spectacular views, which encompass lush cliff faces, sprawling beaches, and sparkling waters.
The site provides a picturesque, self-guided walk that takes visitors along the breath-taking cliff tops all the way to Point Halladale, where we can discover the shipwreck of the Falls of Halladale which dates back to the early 1900s.
We also passed by a monument (below) that commemorates James Irvine who drowned when trying to cross the Curdies River in 1919.  It is a granite memorial with metal spike on top of a stone wall of rough cast granite encasing a seat facing the ocean.
The Bay of Martyrs is by far one of the most beautiful spots along the Great Ocean Road.
