Located just half an hour from Adelaide, Hahndorf is a contemporary village proud of its German heritage. It is Australia’s oldest surviving German settlement and still has a strong German flavour most evident in the smallgoods outlets, bakeries, pubs, restaurants and cafes that line the bustling main street.
Settled in 1839 by Prussian Lutherans seeking religious freedom, Hahndorf is now an artisan village and a delight for shoppers.A stroll along the historic Hahndorf's main street is a highlight for visitors to the Adelaide Hills. We parked our car by the roadside parking and started exploring all the interesting shops on both sides of the road.
The following Pioneer Memorial Gardens were laid out by the community in 1939 to mark the centenary of Hahndorf.
We wished we had more time to explore this little town more thoroughly.
