After an hour and a half drive from Goolwa, I arrived at the Meningie Pink Lake. According to the information board, the pink colouration is caused by a chemical called carotene produced by an aquatic plant to protect it from the sun's ray. The pink colouration increases as the lake dries out in summer.
However, we were not able to see the pink colouration as shown in the above picture. Probably because it's raining at that time, and we were not on high ground. As it was very windy, wet and cold, we quickly took a few pictures and left.
