21 Nov 2022 - Day 8: (Grampians) Blue Moon Alpacas Farm

After our walk at Bunjil Shelter, we decided to drive to Seppelt Cellar Door.  As we were driving along Pomonal Road, we saw a sign "Blue Moon Alpacas Farm" and decided to drive in to take a look.
We spoke to the farm owner and took one of their tours, where we got to meet the alpacas, which generally takes 15 minutes.  Throughout the tour, the farm owner explained why the alpaca is such a unique animal. The tour costs $5 per carload.
Blue Moon Alpacas was born in early 2002 when they purchased their first alpaca, a female who was heavily pregnant, their first born was a little girl.  Later that year they bought two more alpacas, both pregnant and both came with a cria at foot. By the end of 2002 they had a small herd of 8 alpacas.  Over the following years with their breeding program, they built our herd up to over 40 animals.
We then visited their studio where their working looms were set up.  There were also a whole range of hand-made scarves and shawls on sale.
