26 Dec 2026 - KHH Day 6: Dragon and Tiger Pagodas (龍虎塔)

Rising dramatically above the calm waters of Lotus Pond in Zuoying District, the Dragon and Tiger Pagodas (龍虎塔) are among the most iconic landmarks in southern Taiwan.
The Dragon and Tiger Pagodas were completed in 1976 as part of the religious development around Lotus Pond. Built under Taoist influence, they were designed not just as decorative towers but as didactic religious structures.
One of the most fascinating customs associated with the pagodas is the specific walking direction, which is entering through the Dragon’s mouth and exiting through the Tiger’s mouth. Walking this route symbolizes transforming bad luck into good fortune.
After entering the Dragon's mouth, I decided to climb up the pagoda to have a panoramic view of the lake.
Each pagoda rises approximately seven stories high, connected to the shore by a zigzag bridge that stretches over the water.
After sunset, the pagodas began to light up in warm orange colour. I then descended the pagoda and exited through the Tiger's mouth. The Dragon's mouth entrance was already closed by that time.
The warm light softened the bright architecture.
When the pagodas lighted up and with the colours glowed against the dark sky, they were extremely beautiful. We were glad that we were able to have a day and night view of the pagodas.
As the nearest MRT station was quite far from here, we called for a Uber ride, which took the driver more than 30 minutes to arrive due to the heavy traffic around the area.
Watch the below video for the highlights.
