24 Dec 2025 - TPE Day 4: Taking HSR from Taipei to KaoHsiung (Zuoying - 左营)

We had purchased the High-Speed Rail (HSR) tickets via Klook prior to this trip because there was a 1-for-1 promotion (50% discount) then for tickets from Taipei to Kaohsiung.
Thanks to Taiwan’s High-Speed Rail (HSR), what was once a half-day trip is now a smooth, efficient ride of around 1.5 to 2 hours, linking the island’s north and south with remarkable ease. Inside, the HSR carriage felt clean, spacious, and surprisingly quiet. Seats are wide with generous legroom, and large windows line both sides, perfect for watching the scenery slip by.
As the train speeded south, the scenery subtly changed from flat northern plains into central Taiwan’s agricultural fields.
Small towns flashed by in moments with occasional glimpses of mountain ridges rose in the distance.
At about 4pm, the train began slowing down. Palm trees, wider roads, and brighter southern light signaled our arrival at Zuoying HSR Station, Kaohsiung’s high-speed rail hub.
From Zuoying HSR, we walked over to the metro station and took a MRT to Formosa Boulevard station where our accommodation in Kaohsiung was just few minutes' walk away.
