Our day tour package included a stop at Miyahara, which we explored briefly this morning. The queue at that time was even longer than that in the morning. We won't have time to join the queue for the ice cream as we were only given about 30 mins here before proceeding to Gaomei Wetland.
It's quite a long journey (about an hour) to travel by bus from Taichung downtown to Gaomei Wetlands. For the first 20–30 minutes, it felt like just another city commute. As we moved westward toward Qingshui District, the buildings thinned out. We started seeing low-rise residential homes, open farmland, fishponds and aquaculture areas.
The final stretch toward Gaomei Wetlands felt distinctly coastal. The terrain became more open and expansive. Compared to Taichung’s urban center, it felt almost rural and untouched. After we alighted the bus, we immediately noticed the extremely strong wind and salt-tinged air. We could also see wind turbines dotting the horizon, and vast flat landscapes stretching toward the sea.
