24 Dec 2025 - KHH Day 4: Experiencing Earthquake for the 1st Time

While we were taking a break in our room after checking in, we suddenly received an earthquake alert notification on our mobile phones. At that moment, we did not feel any tremor and thought that it's likely because we were geographically quite far from the epicenter, which was in Taitung (台东). However, seconds after that, we started feeling the room moving slightly. This was our first time experiencing an earthquake and were slightly anxious, especially Jerlene and Javier.

We simply stayed still on the beds to wait for the tremor to stop. During that time, we saw the hanging light as well as the swing in the room swaying non-stop. The entire duration was about a minute.

After the tremor, we spoke to the hotel owner who told us this was quite a normal event. We could feel the tremor because we were high up in a building. If we were outdoor on the ground, we probably could not feel it. Anyway, this was the kind of experience that we were unable to have at home.
